SOAP members were delighted to join Kako-san and her large delegation from Edogawa Homestay Club when they visited Gosford in April 2010. Kako-san led the group which also turned out to be the largest delegation of Edogawa residents to Gosford City – a total of 35 people. We had an enjoyable dinner at Ettalong and, as always, it was a pleasure to meet up with Kako-san and her fellow tourists.

Members of SOAP were also keen to catch up with Hiroshi Amanuma, Director of Cultural Affairs at Edogawa City Office, Hiroshi-san was in Gosford with the Edogawa Youth Wing 2010 delegation. We enjoyed lunch at Stillwaters Restaurant Davistown, a ferry trip on Brisbane Water and a trip to Patonga. To add to the Aussie flavour, we were fortunate to see three echidnas at Mt Ettalong Lookout after checking out the magnificent views over Pearl Beach and the peninsula.

All visits have been successful and enjoyable. The international visits allow people to see a whole different culture, to learn, to try new cuisine, to see amazing sights and build language skills. Importantly, so many friendships have been formed and, in a world where we see so much conflict, it is rewarding to be part of a community where we are strengthening international ties and breaking down the barriers.
